My First GlossyBox - A Review

I am completely obsessed with the whole monthly beauty box thing right now.  I mean, it’s like Christmas every time I get one! For $10-$12 a month, I get pure excitement opening up a box of goodies selected just for me. Not to mention, sometimes I find some really great new products!  Currently I subscribe to Ipsy and Beauty Box 5.  I have done Birchbox in the past…but after I got my first couple of Ipsy shipments I realized Birchbox pales in comparison!

For the past month or so, I have been getting emails from GlossyBox urging me to sign up.  I went to the site and saw the price was $21. Um, too much for me, sorry I’m out. I kept getting emails though and soon started getting emails about their one year anniversary coming up and how this box was going to be special, so I gave in.  I purchased my first GlossyBox and I got it today.

You guys?  I’m pleasantly surprised and a tiny bit freaked out. If you keep reading I’ll explain the freaked out part.
So heres the box I got:

Inside I found:
1)    Epionce Anti-Aging + Repair Serum –  .14oz
Meh.  I am 29 years old and I haven’t started using anti-aging things yet.  Maybe I should?  I don’t know, I am just not one to put a bunch of creams and such all over my face. I gave this to a friend
Full Size: $136.00 for 30 ML (or about 1.01 oz), My Value: about $18.75

2)    Etre Belle Collagen & Aloe Vera Hydro mask
This seems fun.  I always love a good mask. I will have to try this one night when C is gone!
Full Size: $39.50 for 10, My Value: $3.95

3)    European Wax Center – The Exfoliate (4ml) & Slow It Body Lotion (4 ml)
Again, I was underwhelmed by this.  The packets are so darn tiny. The box also came with a free wax from European Wax Center, which seems awesome, but I’ve seen a free wax coupon for that place in every coupon mailer I’ve ever received.  Still, I might go use it to get my eyebrows done.
Full Size: $38.00 for 2 oz (exfoliate) & $20.00 for 8 oz (lotion), My Value: $2.50 & $0.33

4)    Nicka K New York Perfume Stick in Dream 42 - .29oz (full size)
You guys this thing smells amazing!  It will be perfect for the few vacations that C and I have planned soon (more on those later). You can bring perfume with you, but it doesn’t count against your carry-on liquid total. That’s pretty great in my eyes. It smells a little fruity, but overall summery and clean. I love it!  Would I pay full price for this somewhere though?  Not sure.
Full Size: $14.99 My Value: $14.99

5)    Sebastian Professional – Volupt Spray (spray gel) – 1.7 oz.
Ok here’s where it starts to get creepy.  Yesterday morning I was thinking about how I needed to get another spray gel to try out my natural curl.  You see, my hair naturally has sort of a wave, but not strong enough to really hold a curl. Hairspray does not do the trick. A few weeks ago I tried the last bit of an old spray gel that I had and it seemed to really hold the curl.  If I would have had more of it, it probably would have.  Which is why I was thinking I should get some more.  Lo and behold, it came in my box today. Magic!
Full Size: $19.95  My Value: $6.70

6)    ModelCo Lip Duo in Dusk/Striptease – Full Size
So THIS MORNING as I pulled out my usual lipstick and then my compact mirror I had a thought. Wouldn’t it be nice if they made a lipstick with a tiny mirror on it so I don’t have to grab both things? I even flipped my lipstick on its side and tried to look at my reflection in the silver part, with no luck. Then…..I got this in the mail a few hours later.  Do you see in the picture? It has a mirror! The whole stick is a bit large, but I love the color. The bad news? Whoever created this wasn’t really thinking. The lipstick and gloss are both attached to the mirror so there is no way to look into the mirror while applying, only after.  Lame. I still had to grab my contact to apply.
Full Size: $39.00 My Value: $39.00

Final Cost: $21.00
Final Value: $86.22

When you look at the final cost compared to the value that I got, this looks like an amazing deal….but I would never pay those prices for majority of these things?  I mean, $39.00 for a lipstick/gloss?  I can find a billion of those for under $10 thank you very much. Others may think this is an amazing deal though.  I am just a bit on the....let’s say frugal size (read: cheap).

I am going to still get the box next month and decide after that if it is still worth it!

If you’d like to give it a try…..use my referral link?  Pretty please?  :)

(Note:  I was not paid to do this review.
These are solely my opinions, I just wanted to share with you all!)

  1. I subscribe to Ipsy...love! Good job with the review...I really like how you did the price figuring out. While the box is an overall deal value wise...I agree with you...I'm not sure if it's worth it or if I'd pay the full price for the products. Can't wait to hear the final verdict after your next box!
