So I did something bad. I think. It was totally an accident.
Speaking of accidents…..I had one. I rear-ended someone. They were in a pretty nice car (an Audi). I say “they” because I will never know if it was a man or a woman, because the person didn’t stop.
I’m thinking that maybe he (let’s just go with that) thought it was a hit and run. Eek.
Let me back up to explain….
On Thursday I was driving home from work on a very busy street here in Arizona. I was behind two cars. The car in the very front all of the sudden slammed on his brakes and did a quick turn at a light onto a small side street. That meant that the car in front of me had to slam on his brakes too. By the time I reacted, it was too late, I hit him.
My immediate response was to turn at the light, to get off the busy street. I thought that the guy I hit (even though he was in front of me) would too since he hadn’t passed the turn yet. Well, he didn’t. He just drove off.
I turned the corner and found a place to stop and just sat there and waited. I thought for sure he’d come back. I got out of my car and surveyed the damage, not too terrible thankfully. Just some light scratches on my bumper that I can hopefully buff out.
It would have taken maybe a minute for him to turn around at the next light so I waited about ten minutes and he still didn’t come back. I decided I would go look for him at some nearby parking lots (there was a small business nearby and a hotel across the street). Nothing. The guy just disappeared.
I feel so terrible. I wonder if he thought I was just leaving???
I really did sit and wait for him. I just instinctively turned thinking there was a lot of damage to my car and I should get off a busy street!
Do I do the wrong thing?!?
(Also, I just noticed this will be my 100th post. Of course it would be about something like this!)
Of course it was an Audi, what else would it be? You did all that you could! I guess the only other thing you could do is call in to your local police station? Maybe the guy did/will call in to report said 'hit and run?' Not a fun situation. Congrats on the 100th post though! Yahoo!

I think the normal thing, would be to stop where you are and get out of the car. No matter if it holds up traffic. The cops like to know and see where the accident happens, I know that.
ReplyDeleteSorry this happened and of course with a really nice car. UGH
It's nice of you that you waited. It happens in life, you did what you can at that moment :)
ReplyDeletePS: Yay 100 posts!
Found you through the meet and greet hop! Thanks for co-hosting! I think you did the right thing - I wonder if he thought it was his fault - or if he didn't have insurance. Anyway. Congrats on the 100 posts! =) Looking forward to reading more!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
